Biography

At just 15 years old, Cheryl began her journey in the travel industry while working at the National Rent A Car franchise at the Port of Miami. Working her way to national leadership positions, Cheryl enjoyed a decade long career in the car rental industry. After graduating with a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Georgia, Cheryl accepted a position with Worldspan (now Travelport). She held various leadership positions throughout her 13+ year tenure in travel technology. Notably, she served as Vice President of Major Accounts and was responsible for the company’s largest travel agency clients. In 2002, she was honored by Travel Weekly as one of the most Powerful Women in Travel.

In 2009, Cheryl fulfilled her dream of owning her own travel management company. She aligned her company, The Travel Collection, with Valerie Wilson Travel in 2012 and tripled the sales revenues over an 8-year period. In 2020, she sold her company to Valerie Wilson Travel and accepted a leadership position as Director Associate Access. In her role, she is responsible for talent acquisition focused on “career changers” and budding entrepreneurs – guiding them with the best practices of running a successful travel company.

Cheryl feels fortunate to be married to her high school sweetheart who makes her laugh every day and she enjoys spending time with her new “travel enthusiasts”, her four grandchildren.

Favorite Place

Some of Cheryl’s favorite trips include: glamping for a week in the arctic experiencing (safely) a polar bear encounter; seeing all Big 5 on her first game drive in South Africa; visiting a boy’s shelter (which she still financially supports) in New Dehli where young boys are rescued from living on the streets; and enjoying a two-hour talk with a professor of women’s studies in Morocco about the challenges women face in an evolving but still traditional Muslim culture.
