Playa del Carmen is a coastal town along the Yucatán Peninsula’s Riviera Maya strip in Mexico. Originally a small fishing town, all of the beaches in the area are public property and very easy to access. Miles of golden sand beaches and crystal waters filled with coral reefs run parallel to the town. There are also underground river systems to explore replete with spectacular stalactite and stalagmite-filled caves! The central hub of activity in Playa del Carmen is on Fifth Avenue, which is filled with boutiques, restaurants, and exciting nightlife.

- Playa del Carmen is an excellent jumping off point to reach the Mayan Ruins in the area (Tulum, Coba, or Chichen-Itza ruins are perfect for day trips).
- Ancient Mayans in the area developed chewing gum as far back as 4,000 years ago!
- The Mayan Riviera is home to several deep wells of clear water and underground rivers called “Cenotes.”
